SYNOPSIS

Firecracker Flower is an amalgam of genres: satire, period, thriller, experimental…an homage to silent and early talkie films. Filmed in16mm black and white using dated techniques, the film is set in a fictional 1938 in which women pride themselves on having stalkers: odd but harmless fellows who follow them, according to specific mores. The story is about one girl longs for one. Her name is simply 'B.' In her youth, a fire that killed her parents and destroyed everything she had, also burned her birth certificate, leaving only the letter B. Her real name unknown, she was adopted and eventually sent off to school. Now at college, B doesn’t fit in. All the girls have fancy clothes, hairdos and long names. But the greatest reason for B’s estrangement is that all of the popular girls have stalkers. Many of the girls even have two or three stalkers! Having no stalker, confused and desperate, B finally decides to run away into the woods to live alone. Her flee from society fails when she realizes she is not alone in the forest, someone has beaten her to this hermit existence. Alas, B comes face to face with a stalker, one of her very own. Sworn off stalking forever, he reveals his dark past and the events that led him to run away and never stalk again. Finally, her dream of having a stalker becomes a nightmare when she confronts her own desires and the reality of this stalker’s obsessions.
